Skippers Rest is a lovely 4 star self catering villa, with spectacular views across the Firth of Forth, located in the picturesque and bustling town of Anstruther in the East Neuk of Fife. Available for weekly rental, long weekends and short breaks. Sleeps up to 8.
Overview:
Dating back to 1650, Skippers Rest is a beautifully modernised 4 bedroom villa arranged over 3 floors. Set in the heart of the popular fishing town of Anstruther in the East Neuk of Fife, this 4 star self catering property is superbly located just a few feet from the sandy beach and the amenities of the town.
Steeped in history, this property was once home to the well known skipper James Randall whose grandson, John Ballantyne, born in this house, later went on to join the Royal Navy and served with distinction in the French war at the capture of Port Rico in 1797. More recently it was home to author Isla Dewar who lived here while writing novels such as "Women Talking Dirty" which was later made into a film.
The town of Anstruther itself has a wide range of shops, pubs and restaurants including 'The Cellar', an excellent seafood restaurant and the famous 'Anstruther Fish Bar'. It is home to the Scottish Fisheries Museum and, from the harbour, boat trips can be taken for sea angling or sightseeing to various areas of interest such as the Isle of May, a famous nature reserve where you can see puffins! Also renowned in the area are numerous walks, gardens and castles as well a number of award winning beaches. The historic university town of St Andrews is less than 15 minutes drive away and Edinburgh can be reached in just over 1 hour.
This wonderful holiday cottage retains many original features including exposed beams and an old ship's mast within the staircase. From most windows there are fabulous views to be enjoyed over Anstruther harbour, the Forth estuary, Bass Rock and North Berwick Law.
