Accommodation This 3-bedroom cottage in the pretty village of Birnam, just a short walk from Dunkeld, has been beautifully renovated whilst still retaining the charm of a farm cottage, with natural beams in the lounge and the shared colonial style open courtyard through an arched driveway.
This first floor cottage is a real home from home and a perfect getaway for all the family. The cosy living and dining area comes complete with an open gas fire, Sky TV, Wifi throughout. There is a selection of DVDs, CDs, books and games for those of us who enjoy just curling up in front of the fire with the family. The Kitchen is modern, functional and fully equipped.
The master bedroom is spacious yet comfortable with a double bed, free standing wardrobe and chest of drawers. The other two bedrooms (1x double & 1x single), keeping with the cottage theme, have beautiful wooden furnishings.
Area Couthie Cottage is located in the village of Birnam, just a short walk across the River Tay from the ancient cathedral town of Dunkeld. Birnam & Dunkeld are considered Scotland's most preserved historic towns both playing a hugely important part in Scotland's long and turbulent history. Continuing in tradition, in August 2016 Birnam will host the 152nd Annual Highland Games
Birnam and Dunkeld boast an array of sports; whether it's canoeing & whitewater rafting down the Tay or visiting the Murthly & Strathbraan Estates for something a little more traditional, such as trout & salmon fishing or shooting. The estates also have beautifully kept gardens and have excellent leisure amenities for those that are a little less adrenaline fuelled.
Perthshire is famous for its huge woodland areas, which are perfectly suited to cyclists and walkers alike and are said to have inspired Beatrix Potter to create the character of Peter Rabbit on one of her many rambles. Birnam Arts Centre has created their own Beatrix Potter Garden to inspire a further generation in this picturesque setting. Those looking for another perfect photo opportunity, however, should head to The Hermitage, which contains Ossian's Hall of Mirrors and overlooks the magnificent Black Linn Falls.

We really enjoyed our stay at Couthie Cottage and we do wish but have not yet planned when to book again. The courtyard setting was unique and ample room within for four adults and one active wee boy.

Warm, cosy, clean, beautifully furnished, nice bed linen and books and dvds to use. Second time we have stayed there and we will be back next year I hope. We rent a lot of cottages for short breaks over the course of the year and this one is my favourite. Thanks to the owner and the housekeeper for having us.

“fabulous wee family cottage and superbly well equipped”
This cottage was just fantastic.lovely quirky decor, really clean white sheets and towels. It's bigger than the picture makes it look! Came here with my husband, mum and two kids and it was great! Would highly recommend.

Great place, spacious and warm feeling. Nicely tucked away in its own courtyard.

"We had a great vacation, just (as holidays always are..) too short."
Some (especially very new) accomodation feel sterile. Not this one. We felt at home from the start and had a very nice vacation. Some luck with the weather helped, but we took one day off and stayed at the cottage instead of visiting something, just as we would have done at home. We joined the National Trust for Scotland earlier this year, and saved more than the membership fees in entry fees, parking lot money, and so on, and my girlfriend and me are now members of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society... So thank you again for all the work done, we had a fine vacation. If someone should ask us about Scotland we will be sure to point them in your direction.

"If you want comfort, cosy, rest and relaxation - Couthie is perfect!"
I booked a long weekend break at Couthie Cottage last weekend. I was looking for a pretty standard base after my days that I'd plan to spend walking and exploring the beautiful surroundings of Birnam... However, I got so much more!! The cottage is full of comfort and character! It is quirky and appropriately decorated for the age of the building. We absolutely adored every room. It really is a beautiful cottage externally and internally. The bed was the most comfortable bed I have slept in away from home. The lounge was very cosy and the fire was a treat to sit by in the evenings. The cherry on top was the great service offered by the owner, we had a couple of special requirements during our stay which were addressed with kindness and flexibility. I have already recommended to friends and we will definitely be returning.

"A little haven"
This is our second visit to Couthie Cottage, and it never fails to disappoint. It is ideal for families and very convenient for the Beatrix Potter centre, which is just across the road, and serves lovely food. There are lots of walks from the doorstep, and bars, restaurants and shops all nearby. It took us an hour to get there from Edinburgh, and you could feel yourself relax as you stepped over the door.

We had a great weekend here. It's a brilliant location - we took the car but you could easily travel by train because there's a station at Birnam. The flat is spotlessly clean and it sleeps six quite comfortably (there's a pull-out bed in one of the bedrooms). The Birnam Arts Centre serves great food for breakfast and lunch and you can walk to Dunkeld for more pubs and shops. The Taybank has a great beer garden where we sat out all afternoon in the unexpected sunshine. Dunkeld is one of my favourite places in Scotland. It's a lovely area to visit, you really feel like you are far from the city and the hills will be amazing in the autumn.
|Mr M. Stevens, May 2014|
What a lovely weekend we had here with our two children (8 and 5 years). They loved playing with the games in the games cupboard and we had lovely bedtime stories by the living flame fire. Days were spent exploring Dunkeld and Birnam on the easy to follow walking trails - with those ever important parks en route. The family friendly Birnam hill is located immediately behind the cottage and the Hermitage is a 'must see' only a few minutes drive away. Try out the Taybank pub on the banks of the Tay - dog and kid friendly and decent beer. It took us only an hour to drive here from Edinburgh - yet it felt like we were in the middle of the highlands. We'd love to come back again soon.
