Overview:
Situated on the former slate mining island of Easdale, An Rubha (pronounced An Roo-ha) is a traditional style cottage built to an exceptionally high standard in 1999. Located to the north end of this small island, it offers unrestricted views, from the accommodation, across the Firth of Lorn towards the Isle of Mull.
The accommodation at An Rubha includes two spacious double bedrooms upstairs with a further double bedroom on the ground floor. The generously sized bathroom has a heated Easdale slate floor and free-standing bath. The cottage also benefits from having a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge-freezer, microwave, ironing board and iron, juicer and the kitchen is well equipped with utensils for cooking. The living area has a digital television, dvd and vhs player and a cd player. There are several games and books to keep you entertained, children's travel cot and high chair and unlimited free coal for the open fire. The rental charge also includes bed linen and towels.
The island has around 70 permanant inhabitants and boasts a welcoming pub that is open all year round and a tearoom / restaurant which is open during the summer months. This award winning eatery sells locally caught seafood and beers brewed in and around Argyll.
Easdale is a peaceful and car free island, allowing the visitor unrestricted enjoyment of the natural environment. The island has a network of footpaths and takes about 25 minutes to walk around including climbing the 125-ft hill that offers commanding views of surrounding islands.
Access to Easdale Island is via a three-minute passenger ferry crossing from the village of Ellenabeich on the Isle of Seil which also has a pub and shop as does nearby Balvicar. The area's local town, Oban, the gateway to the Western Isles, is less than 30-minutes drive via the famous 'Bridge over the Atlantic' that connects the Isle of Seil to the rest of Scotland, and has a number of supermarkets and other general tourist facilities.
The Easdale Island Community Hall stages regular entertainment throughout the year with nationally, and internationally, acclaimed acts performing to a packed auditorium. One of the island's strengths is its sense of community and a warm welcome awaits the daytripper or holidaymaker alike.
Seafari Adventures offer a number of high speed boat excursions departing from Ellenabeich, including trips to the world's second largest whirlpool at Corryvreckan and guaranteed sightings of the abundant local wildlife some of which include whales, dolphins, basking sharks, white tailed eagles, deer, goats, seals and pups.
Sleeps 5 - 6 guests.
